LAKEWOOD, NJ- The Georgian Court University volleyball squad snapped its season-high five game losing streak with a copacetic performance Thursday evening as the Lions outlasted visiting-Chestnut Hill College in a five-set CACC battle (25-23, 18-25, 25-18, 15-25, 15-12).
The contest marked the Lions' fourth five-set match of the season, their most since playing eight in 2007. GCU is now 2-2 when going the limit and improves to 5-9 (4-2 CACC) overall.
Amy Berry collected her second double-double of the year, leading all players with 15 kills and tying
Francheska Cedres for the team lead with her 13 digs.
Tatiana Villariny followed with 13 kills of her own.
Maria Antimisiaris contributed six kills and 10 digs in the triumph while
Jaslene Lopez established a new career high with her 50 assists. It marks the first 50+ assist effort by a GCU player since
Lisamary Figueroa distributed 55 in a 3-2 victory at Philadelphia University back on 9/22/09, exactly two years ago to the day.
Chestnut Hill's
Alex DePalma (So.-Shillington, PA) provided a double-double of her own for the Griffins, drilling 13 kills and collecting 15 digs.
Liz DeGregorio (Jr.-Conshohocken, PA) tallied a game-high 24 digs while
Sidney Chukuntarod (Fr.-San Francisco, CA) paced her club with 28 assists.
The Griffins fall to 6-8 (1-3 CACC) on the year.
Georgian Court will next host Dominican College in a special Homecoming match Saturday morning at 11 AM in the Wellness Center.
