Lions Feeling "Iul" After 2-1 CACC Soccer Loss to Caldwell College

LAKEWOOD, NJ- Two goals from Lauren Iuliucci (Franklinville, NJ) represented all of Caldwell College's offense Saturday afternoon at Investors Savings Bank Field, as the visiting Cougars (8-2, 5-0 CACC) departed Georgian Court University with a key 2-1 CACC road victory over the Lions (6-3-1, 5-2 CACC).

The defeat snaps GCU's four-game winning streak while Caldwell remains perfect against conference foes in 2012.

The two squads played a scoreless first half before Iuliucci put the Cougars up 1-0 in the 63rd minute (62:45) as she put in an Ashlee Paknis (So.-Little Egg Harbor, NJ) corner kick. The second tally of the contest also came off a set play as Illiucci headed in a Carissa Strye (Jr.-Nazareth, PA) direct kick in the 82nd minute (81:35) to give the road team a commanding 2-0 advantage. The Caldwell sophomore now has four goals on the year.

GCU's Ashley Gordon-Edwards tapped in a Nicole Petrosino pass for the Lions' lone goal and her third of the season with three ticks left on the clock (89:57), but the outcome had long since been solidified.

Caldwell out shot the Lions, 6-5, and held a 2-1 advantage in the corner kicks category.

Cougars' goalkeeper Kristina Cabales (Sr., Islip Terrace, NY) improved to 4-1 with three saves over 90 minutes of action. Casey O'Connor dipped to 6-3-1, also tallying three saves.

The Lions take a week off before returning to action Saturday, October 6 with a crucial conference contest vs. visiting Nyack College at 1:00 p.m.
