The Georgian Court University volleyball squad, acting as "road warriors" of late, concluded a five-game stretch away from home this weekend, which included a conference contest at Concordia College and a regional tri-match vs. Dowling College and Adelphi University.
The Lions traveled to Bronxville, N.Y. Saturday afternoon, defeating the Clippers (2-10, 2-4 CACC), 3-0, in three tightly contested sets (25-22, 25-21, 25-20).
Amy Berry led all players with 11 kills (.429 hitting percentage) and
Jaslene Lopez led the team with 26 assists.
Gabriela Berrios-Hernandez contributed a game-high 10 digs.
Georgian Court (6-10, 3-3 CACC) was right back at it on Sunday as the Lions journeyed to Oakdale, N.Y. for a challenging twin-bill. GCU first took the floor vs. the host Golden Lions (10-6) and grabbed the first set, 27-25, before falling in the next three vs. the perennial power (15-25, 16-25, 23-25).
Both Berry and
Tatiana Villariny-Rodriguez tallied 12 kills apiece. Lopez led the Lions with 29 assists while
Francheska Cedres provided 12 of her own. Cedres also controlled 11 digs for the double-double.
GCU concluded its day with another 3-1 defeat, this time vs. Adelphi. The Panthers (10-7) jumped out to a 2-0 advantage with victories of 25-19 and 25-16. The Lions showed its mettle with a 27-25 triumph in the third set before Adelphi ended the match with a 25-21 win in the fourth game.
Villariny-Rodriguez drilled 10 kills for Georgian Court. Lopez distributed 25 assists and controlled nine digs while Berrios-Hernandez registered a team-high 10 digs.
GCU returns home this Wednesday for a CACC contest vs. the University of the Sciences. Start time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
