Lions Dodge Lightning in 3-1 Besting of Goldey-Beacom

LAKEWOOD, NJ- The Goldey-Beacom College Lightning volleyball squad marched into the Georgian Court University Wellness Center Friday evening hungry for its first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory of the year, but the host-Lions dodged the storm, holding on for a 3-1 victory.

GCU took the first set by a 25-20 score with Goldey-Beacom responding with a 25-23 counter attack in the second set. The Lightning threatened in set three, but the Lions wore out their visitors, 27-23. The fourth and final set was all Georgian Court, 25-14.

Amy Berry paced the GCU attack with eight kills. Francheska Cedres contributed a match-high 13 digs while Jaslene Lopez led all players with 24 assists.

Goldey-Beacom's Kadi McCoy (So.-Dallastown, PA) provided a double-double for the Lightning with a match-high 12 kills and team-leading 10 digs. She also drilled three service aces. Monica Dempsey (Sr.-Secaucus, NJ) distributed 16 assists.

With the victory, the Lions improve to 11-13 (8-5 CACC) while Goldey-Beacom dips to 4-17 (0-13 CACC). Georgian Court travels to Waterbury, CT to take on Post University Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. in another CACC contest.
