Lions Fall at Philadelphia, 3-1, in CACC Volleyball Action

PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University women's volleyball team earned a 3-1 victory over visiting Georgian Court in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match Thursday night in the Gallagher Center.

After picking up their second win in a 24-hour span, the Lady Rams improve to 10-5 overall and 6-2 against the CACC. Georgian Court goes to 7-11 overall and 4-4 in conference play. The set scores for the match were 25-21, 24-26, 25-12, 26-24.

Outside hitter Danielle Carney was the Lady Rams' top performer by recording match-highs with 14 kills, and 16 digs. Middle hitter Chelsea Hughes added nine kills and three block assists.

Outside hitters Brittany Olson and Terra Ecker, and middle hitter Ellie Edgar all had six kills. Edgar had seven block assists, while Ecker had five. Jordan Milligan added two solo blocks and three block assists for the Lady Rams, who finished with 20 block assists in the match.

Setters Allyson Schillinger and Heather Martin tallied 19 and 15 assists, respectively. Libero Morgan McCarthy had 13 digs.

Maria Antimisiaris paced the Lions with 11 digs and 10 kills. Amy Berry also had 10 kills in the loss. Jaslene Lopez contributed a match-high 28 assists.

After falling behind 2-0, the Lady Rams went on an 8-1 run, including three kills from Olson, to take an 8-3 lead.  Georgian Court came back to close the margin to 9-7. A block by Edgar and Carney allowed Philadelphia to regain its five-point lead at 14-9. Edgar and Hughes added three kills in the set.

The Lady Rams controlled a majority of the second set; however, they couldn't close it out after earning triple-set point. Trailing 24-21 the Lions scored the final five points of the set, three on Philadelphia attack errors, to come from behind and steal the set.

Philadelphia storms out of the gate in set three to grab a 12- 3 lead. The Lady Rams forced six Georgian Court attack errors during the run. Ecker and Carney added a pair of kills as well. Carney finished the set with five kills. Philadelphia hit .385 (12 kills, two errors, 26 attacks) during the set, while Georgian Court hit .000 (8-8-32).

It was Philadelphia's turn to rally, trailing 21-13, to win the fourth set and close out the match. Ecker and Edgar teamed up for three block assists, one coming on match point, during the 13-3 run. Carney had three of her six set four kills during the rally.

 Georgian Court takes a day off before traveling to Nyack College Saturday afternoon for another CACC contest. Start time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
