Lions Return to Action, Drop Crucial CACC Volleyball Contest at University of the Sciences

PHILADELPHIA- The Georgian Court University volleyball squad made things way more interesting for themselves in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference standings and the University of the Sciences women's volleyball team kept their playoff hopes alive as the Devils topped the Lions, 3-1, at the Bobby Morgan Arena on Thursday.

The win, the Devils sixth in their last seven contests, ensures the team of a winning season as they remain one game behind both GCU and Holy Family University for the last playoff spot in the South Division.  All three teams have one regular season contest left. Sciences improves their record to 16-13 overall and 10-8 in CACC matches. The Lions fall to 14-15 overall and 11-7 in league play.

The win was the Devils' first over Georgian Court since the 2005 season.

Sciences libero Stacey Wooden (Pennsbury HS/Levittown, Pa.) led the team with 16 digs on the night. Desirae Lair (Las Vegas HS/Las Vegas, Nev.) led the team with 16 kills (16-3-29, .448) while Caitlyn Crawford (Covington HS/Covington, Ohio) added ten.  Kaileen Bevenour (Washington Twp. HS/Sicklerville, N.J.) had 40 assists.

Crawford also led the team with seven blocks while Rachel Martin (Troy HS/Troy, N.Y.) added three.

Tatiana Villariny-Rodriguez led the Lions with 17 kills. Francheska Cedres had 23 digs and #Anabelle Barinas completed a double-double with 15 digs to go along with her 13 kills. Jaslene Lopez# distributed 47 assists in the defeat.

Georgian Court is tentatively scheduled to host its final regular-season match Saturday at noon vs.two-time defending champion Caldwell College in the Wellness Center. It will mark the final home contest for GCU seniors Maria Antimisiaris, Amy Berry, and Caitlyn Lawrence.
