Samantha King (Elkton, MD/North East) of the Bloomsburg University women's lacrosse team registered nine points and was one point shy of breaking the school record for single game points as the Huskies thumped Georgian Court, 25-10. Bloomsburg's 25 goals are the most they have scored since 2010 when the Huskies put up 23 against Kutztown.
Bloomsburg got off to a hot start, scoring the first six goals of the game in the first seven and half minutes. King and Julie Falk (Millersville/Penn Manor) scored two goals apiece during this stretch.
Georgian Court finally got on the board at the 18:39 mark of the half but Bloomsburg's King netted back-to-back goals to put Bloomsburg ahead 8-1. The Lions would cut the BU lead to 9-3 but the Huskies would close out the first half by outscoring Georgian Court 7-2.
In the first half alone King scored four goals and registered two assists. Falk added another two goals and two assists in the half.
Bloomsburg maintained their momentum as they scored five straight goals to open the second half. Five different Huskies scored during the 5-0 run as Sam Mazzie (Barto/Boyertown) and Ashley Bossert (Ambler/Wissahickon) each recorded two points on a goal and an assist.
The Lions answered with three straight goals before King netted her sixth and final goal of the contest to put Bloomsburg ahead 22-8. The Huskies closed out the game outscoring Georgian Court 3-2 as Bloomsburg won 25-10.
King led the way as she registered nine points on six goals and three assists. Maggie Canavan (Erdenheim/Springfield) added another six points on three goals and three assists. Falk and Mazzie each finished with five points as they combined for five goals and five assists. Ashley Bossert (Ambler/Wissahickon) also had five points on two goals and an assist while sister Aubrey Bossert (Ambler/Wissahickon) scored three goals.
Samantha Shaw, after missing the entire 2011 season, made a strong return to the Lions' lineup with four points (3 goals, 1 assist). Corinne Coyle and Kerry Stader scored two goals apiece while Molly McCourt registered a goal and two assists.
Sara Bates (Wading River, NY/Shoreham-Wading River) got the win for the Huskies as she made six saves in just over 45 minutes of work. Shelby Iezzi (Pottstown/Owen J. Roberts) also saw time between the pipes today, making three saves.
Amanda Cathcart, making her GCU debut, took the loss as she made eight saves in net for the Lions.
