Holy Family Thorn in Lions' Side ... Win, 17-14, For Second Straight Over GCU

LAKEWOOD, NJ-  The Georgian Court University lacrosse squad, for the second time in 12 days, dropped a CACC decision to Holy Family University, losing to the visiting Tigers, 17-14, Wednesday afternoon. The Lions fell at Holy Family, 12-11, back on March 31, snapping their 39-game regular-season winning streak vs. CACC opponents. Today's loss marks GCU's first-ever regular-season home loss to a CACC foe since the inception of conference play in 2009.

Holy Family (7-4, 6-1 CACC) jumped out to a 2-0 lead with two scores in the first 2:26 of the game. A GCU goal from Stephanie Gallo, her first of two on the day, at 20:16 tied the score at 3-3, which would be the first of six stalemates in the first half. 

Emily Gialanella's second tally of the half at 1:22 gave Georgian Court University its largest advantage of the game at 9-7. However, the Tigers rallied for two goals in the final 51 seconds of the stanza to tie the score at 9-9 going into the half.

Corinne Coyle scored the fourth of her game-high six goals with 23:46 remaining in the second half, which tied the affair at 10-10. Holy Family would then answer with five consecutive scores to give the visitors an insurmountable 15-10 lead. GCU scored the final three scores of the game over the last 7:01, but the Lions' comeback simply ran out of time.


Gina Mansi (Sr.-Washington Twp., NJ) topped the Tigers with five goals and an assist. Stephanie McNesby (Jr.-Philadelphia, PA) provided a hat trick for Holy Family while Samantha Cornely (Sr.-Washington Twp., NJ), Sarah Kelly (Fr.-Washington Twp., NJ) and Marissa Lawson (So.-York, PA) collected a pair of goals each.


Molly McCourt contributed two goals and assist while reigning CACC Player of the Week Olivia Rotunno provided a goal and an assist.

Melissa Jenkins (Sr.-Glenolden, PA) collected eight saves to earn the victory in the Holy Family net while GCU's #Amanda Cathcart# suffered the defeat, gahtering 10 saves in the effort.

The Lions take to the road Thursday afternoon when they travel to #9 West Chester University.
