LAKEWOOD, NJ- After commencing the afternoon with a Senior Day celebration that honored the collegiate careers of the senior trio,
Mary Lynn Hankins,
Dana Lenneper, and
Kelly Lyons, the Georgian Court University lacrosse squad sank the Raiders of Shippensburg University , 16-14, in GCU's final tune-up before next week's CACC Championship Tournament.
The first half was of the back-and-forth variety as the Lions completed the initial stanza with a 10-8 advantage. Shippensburg (7-9) opened the second frame with two goals in the first 3:30 to tie the game at 10-10. GCU answered with six unanswered tallies to take what seemed to be a commanding 16-10 advantage. The Raiders responded with four straight goals of their own over the final 5:07, but could not catch the home team.
Reigning CACC Player of the Week,
Corinne Coyle topped all players with her five goals (six points).
Samantha Shaw contributed four goals, followed by multi-point efforts from
Stephanie Gallo (1 goal, 5 assists);
Kerry Stader (3 goals, 1 assist);
Molly McCourt (1 goal, 2 assists); and
Olivia Rotunno (two goals).
Freshman #Amanda Cathcart# collected 11 saves in net for the Lions (11-6), registering her 11th victory of the season.
Lindsay Kennedy (Jr.-Springfield, PA) led the vistors with six points (3 goals, 3 assists), folllowed by
Lauren Hauck (Sr.-Montclair, VA) (3 goals, 2 assists);
Bennett Widlake (So.-Catonsville, MD) (1 goal, 1 assist);
Jessica Schubach (Sr.-Collegeville, PA) (2 goals); and
Sheila Johnson (Fr.-Drexel Hill, PA) (2 goals).
Shippensburg netminder
Ali Cross (Sr.-Oreland, PA) tallied six saves in 60 minutes of action.
Georgian Court remains idle until next week's tournament, which will be played Saturday, May 5 and Sunday, May 6 at GCU.
