Records Galore for GCU as Lions Triumph in 26-20 Smackdown of Philly U.

LAKEWOOD, NJ- Olivia Rotunno netted a team-record nine goals and Samantha Shaw did the same with her eight assists as the Georgian Court University lacrosse squad outlasted CACC rival Philadelphia University, 26-20, Thursday afternoon. The 26 goals are the most scored in a single game by the Lions since the inception of the program in 2007.

Rotunno, with six goals in Tuesday's 16-14 overtime victory at Wilmington University, has 15 tallies on the week and now ties with teammate Corinne Coyle for the team lead with 31 on the year.

The Lions (8-2, 7-1 CACC) jumped out to a commanding 6-0 lead at 23:10 in the first half. The Lady Rams (5-6, 4-3) cut the deficit in half and made the score 6-3 with three unanswered goals in less than a minute with Emily Ray (22:06), Taylor Peltzer (21:34) and Carli DiCoccio finding the back of the net for Philadelphia.

Georgian Court would proceed to outscore the vistors, 10-6, over the remainder of the half and would enter intermission with a 16-9 advantage.

The Lady Rams would go on to win the second half, 11-10, and outshoot the Lions, 45-38, in the contest, but could not surpass GCU in the all important scoring column.

Lions' netminder Amanda Cathcart, facing a flurry of Philly shots, collected an impressive 17 saves as the freshman earned her eighth victory of the year.

Shaw added three goals to go along with her eight assists in registering a game-high 11 points. Stephanie Gallo collected nine points of her own with five goals and four assists. Molly McCourt ripped four goals while Coyle matched McCourt's four points with a hat trick and an assist. 

Philadelphia's Taylor Peltzer contributed a team-high eight points with six goals and two assists while Emily Ray matched her teammate in the goal column with six of her own. 2011 CACC Player of the Year Caribeth Shappell scored four goals and assisted on two more in the defeat.

Lady Rams' goalie Ellen Wright denied eight shots in the loss.

Georgian Court travels to #13 Dowling College Saturday afternoon in non-conference action. The contest is scheduled to commence at 1:00 PM.
