Lions Survive "Trap Match" at Felician, Stage Set for Sunday Showdown vs. Wilmington

Jaslene Lopez
Rutherford, N.J.- The Georgian Court University volleyball squad survived a "trap match" of sorts Saturday morning as the Lions improved to 9-1 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) competition (11-9 overall) with a 3-1 victory at Felician College.

GCU now returns home to host first-place Wilmington University (15-8, 10-1 CACC) Sunday afternoon at noon in the Wellness Center Arena. The Wildcats have defeated the Lions in seven straight meetings, including two classic 3-2 contests in their last two matches, both in Wilmington (9/17/13 and 11/9/12).

Felician (4-12, 4-8 CACC) secured the first set from Georgian Court, 25-20, before the Lions trounced the Golden Falcons, 25-7, in the second frame. The home team squandered a 17-8 advantage in game three as the Lions stormed back to win it, 26-24. It was more of the same in the fourth and final game as GCU eeked out a 25-23 win to secure the victory.

Jhoan Agosto Rivera (11) and Anabelle Barinas (10) topped Georgian Court in the kills' column while Jaslene Lopez distributed 36 assists and collected 10 digs for the double-double. Two additional Lions collected 10 or more digs, including Gabriela Berrios-Hernandez (12) and Francheska Cedres (10).

Olivia Emerson (So.-Sparks, Nev.) provided a double-double for the Golden Falcons with 11 kills and 10 digs. Susie McKeever (So.-N. Fort Myers, Fla.) distributed 27 assists while Patrycja Giemza (So.-Dabrowa Gornicza, Poland) topped all players with 17 digs.
