Men's Soccer Loses Lead in Final Seconds, Settles for 1-1 Tie with Goldey-Beacom

Brad Golec
Lakewood, N.J.- The Georgian Court University men's soccer squad appeared to be on its way to a vital 1-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory Wednesday afternoon on Investors Savings Bank Field, but a goal by Goldey-Beacom College's Dan Bennett (So.-Pittsgrove, N.J.) with 00:06 remaining in regulation changed everything as the two sides settled for a 1-1 stalemate.

The Lightning and Lions played a scoreless first stanza with the visitors owning a slight 3-2 edge in the shots column. Sebastian Gostynski gave GCU a 1-0 advantage at 61:55 on a nifty goal into the upper left corner from an extremely diffcult angle (courtesy of a Bradley Golec assist).

The final countdown to victory was underway when Bennett stunned the home bench when he headed home a shot into the bottom left corner after a scrum in front of the Georgian Court goal. Both teams fired five shots each in overtime, but to no avail.

GCU netminder Rylan Gentil tallied nine saves on 20 Lightning shots in 110:00. Goldey-Beacom keeper Carlos Meinhard (Caracas, Venezuela) collected six saves on 18 Georgian Court attempts.

The Lions will next host Concordia College in CACC action this Saturday at 2:30 p.m. With it being Homecoming Day, the contest will be played on the soccer field in the GCU Track & Field complex.
