CALDWELL, N.J. – Junior forward
Evan Teitelbaum (Holmdel, NJ/Holmdel) broke a 1-1 tie with a goal in the 72nd minute to lift the Caldwell College men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over visiting Georgian Court University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Saturday afternoon at Caldwell Field. The win gives the Cougars a 7-9-1 record overall and a 4-6-1 mark in the conference. The Lions, who are in their first season as an intercollegiate program, are 5-11-1, 2-8-1 CACC.
With the score tied at 1-1, sophomore midfielder
Christian Castro (Clifton, NJ/Clifton) dribbled down the left side and crossed the ball past the Lions' goal. Junior midfielder
Yousef Elhusseini (Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge) headed the ball back across the face of the goal to Teitelbaum, who headed the ball home for a 2-1 lead.
The Cougars took a 1-0 lead on a goal by freshman forward Haakon Sulheim (Lillehammer, Norway/Lillehammer), who headed in a long throw-in from Elhusseini in the 17th minute. The goal is Sulheim's CACC-leading 16th of the season. Less than a minute into the second half,
Ben Vergara scored on a scramble inside the Cougars' penalty area to tie the game at 1-1.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Michael Hartmann (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) tallied four saves in goal for Caldwell, while
Rylan Gentil made six saves for Georgian Court.
The Lions close out the 2013 regular season Wednesday afternoon with a 3:30 p.m. home contest vs. Wilmington University. GCU will celebrate Fan Apprecation Day throughout the game.
