Lakewood, N.J.- The Georgian Court University men's soccer squad concluded its initial season with a 4-0 loss to Wilmington University in Central Atlantic Collegiate action Wednesday afternoon on Investors Savings Bank Field.
The Lions, having lost its final eight contests of the year, finish 2013 with a mark of 5-11-1 (2-8-1 CACC) while the Wildcats improve to 10-5-1 (6-4-1 CACC).
Wilmington commenced the scoring at 23:56 when
Tommy Quaranta (Sr.-Baltimore, Md.) knocked in his eighth goal of the year after blasting home the rebound of a
Vitor Lima (Jr.-Londrina, Brazil) attempt that was originally knocked away by GCU keeper
Rylan Gentil.
Elton Joe (Jr.-Baltimore, Md.) netted his team-leading 12th tally of the year at 43:45 after gathering a
Todd Woll (Sr.-Mount Laurel, N.J.) feed at midfield and taking it all the way to the net.
With the score 2-0 at intermission, Lima initiated the scoring in the second stanza when he drilled in a direct kick at 71:34 for his third goal on the season.
Aaron Brown (So.-Newark, Del.) closed out the affair with his first goal of the season, courtesy of a
Femi Akintunde (So.-Thamesmead, England) rebounded shot.
Chad Jenkins (Sr.-Newark, Del.) tallied one save in the Wilmington net to earn his first (1-0) victory of the year. Gentil (5-11-1) contributed a stellar effort in the Lions' net as he collected 14 saves in the contest.
Wilmington dominated GCU with a 29-3 shot advantage and a 12-2 lead in corner kicks.
