Lakewood, N.J.- The Georgian Court University volleyball squad moved into sole possession of second place in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference South Division Friday evening with a thrilling 3-1 victory over rival-Philadelphia University in the Wellness Center Arena.
The Lions (6-8, 4-1 CACC) fell to the Lady Rams (5-7, 4-2 CACC), 18-25, in the first set before grabbing the next three in succession: 25-15, 25-22, and 25-20.
After collecting a putrid first set hitting percentage of -.108, GCU stormed back in the second frame by tallying 14 kills and a hitting mark of .407.
Gabriela Berrios-Hernandez paced the Lions' offense with her fifth double-double of the season, which included 10 kills and 13 digs.
Tatiana Villariny Rodriguez led all players with 15 kills while
Francheska Cedres controlled 16 digs.
Jaslene Lopez distributed 45 assists.
Philly's Terra Ecker led the Lady Rams with eight kills to go along with 11 digs. Morgan McCarthy and Allison Manley contributed 14 and 10 digs, respectively. Nina Morvin's 11 assists topped the visiting squad.
GCU does not get much time to savor the tonight's triumph as the Lions return to action Saturday morning with an 11:00 a.m. home conference match vs. Post University.
