Lakewood, N.J.-The #3-seed Georgian Court University women's soccer squad will host #6-seed Philadelphia University in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship Tournament quarterfinals as the Lions begin its quest for the 2013 title Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. on Investors Savings Bank Field.
GCU (10-5-3, 9-2-2 CACC) enters the postseason with a two-game losing streak. However, the Lions enjoyed a stellar regular season campaign, which included their eighth consecutive 10+ win season and a CACC-best nine shutouts.
The Lady Rams (6-8-4, 5-5-2 CACC) went 4-2-2 over their final eight games to climb to the #6 seed. The Lions were victorious at Philadelphia, 1-0, in a game that went to double overtime back on September 17. The victory marked the first regular-season win over Philly in the nine-year tenure of GCU head coach
James Moore (1-6-2).
Coach Moore and his Lions have gone 2-2 vs. the Lady Rams in the postseason with the most memorable win coming in 2008 when GCU, as the #2 seed, upset #1 Philadelphia, 1-0, to claim its first CACC championship since 2002. Georgian Court also downed its nemesis, 4-0, as the #6 seed in the 2010 quarterfinals en route to its second crown in three years.
Philadelphia got the best of the Lions by a 3-0 score in both the 2007 semifinals and the 2011 semifinals. Georgian Court has reached the CACC semifinals in seven straight seasons.
