Lakewood, N.J.- The Georgian Court University volleyball squad, less than 24 hours after winning a division contest at Chestnut Hill College Friday night, returned home Saturday afternoon to defeat visiting Nyack College, 3-1, in another crucial Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match.
The Lions, with the pair of victories, improve to 15-11 (13-3 CACC) and own a four-game winning streak. The Warriors, who came into the contest leading the CACC North, fall to 17-13 (13-4 CACC).
GCU took a 2-0 led after victories of 25-23 and 25-20 in the first two sets. The Warriors downed the home team, 25-23, in set three before the Lions closed out the match with a 25-10 decision in the fourth and final frame.
Tatiana Villariny Rodriguez led all players with her 15 kills on the afternooon. A day after collecting 20 kills and 18 digs in the win at Chestnut Hill,
Alice Vicente tallied yet another double-double with 14 kills and 10 digs vs. the Warriors. Vicente has earned three double-doubles in her five matches thus far in 2013.
Jaslene Lopez paced the offense with her 47 assists while
Gabriela Berrios-Hernandez gathered a match-high 19 digs.
Samantha Garza (So.-North Branch, Mich.) and
Abbey Lawson (Fr.-Mililani, Hi.) topped the Nyack offense with 12 and 11 kills, respectively.
Brianna Kane (Sr.-Bethany, Conn.) distributed 27 assists while
Michelle Makela (Gr.-Cocoa, Fla.) collected 17 digs.
The Lions take a day to rest up before traveling to Philadelphia University Monday evening for a huge division showdown vs. the second-place Lady Rams. Start time is slated for 6:00 p.m.
