Philadelphia, Pa.- For the tenth time this season, the Georgian Court University volleyball squad went to a fifth set as the Lions (for the second time in 2013) held off the University of the Sciences, 3-2, in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action, Wednesday evening in the Bobby Morgan Arena.
The Lions (16-12, 14-4 CACC) jumped out to a commanding 2-0 lead after swiping the first two sets by scores of 26-24 and 25-18. The Devils (14-18, 9-9 CACC) fired back with victories of 25-22 and 25-20 to tie the match at 2-all. An upset was in the making as USciences owned an 8-2 advantage at the switch of the deciding frame, but the home team could not hold down GCU as the Lions went on a 14-6 spurt to solidify the triumph.
Alice Vicente registered her fourth double-double in seven matches with the Lions as she clubbed 16 kills to go along with 18 digs.
Anabelle Barinas tallied 15 kills while
Tatiana Villariny Rodriguez drilled 10.
Melanee Coleman blasted a career-high 11 kills to go along with a splendid .357 hitting average.
Jaslene Lopez distributed a team-high 44 assists while
Gabriela Berrios-Hernandez and
Dara Schroeder collected 23 and 11 digs, respectively.
Georgian Court returns home for its final regular-season contest this Saturday as the Lions host Dominican College at 12:00 p.m. GCU will honor Berrios-Hernandez and Lopez prior to the match with its annual Senior Day celebration at 12:45 p.m.
