Georgian Court Handed 81-54 Defeat at USciences in CACC Men's Hoops

Jonte Rutty
Philadelphia, Pa.- The University of the Sciences men's basketball squad coasted to a 81-54 victory over visiting Georgian Court University Saturday afternoon in the Bobby Morgan Arena. The Devils improve to 7-4 (4-1 CACC) while the Lions drop their seventh straight contest, slipping to 2-10 on the year (0-5 CACC).

The Lions netted the game's first hoop, a Jonte Rutty layup, 24 seconds in to the contest, but that would be the only time GCU would be in the black. USciences proceeded to outscore Georgian Court, 34-19, over the remainder of the period. Garret Kerr's (Jr.-Moorestown, N.J.) three-pointer with eight ticks remaining before intermission provided the Devils a stanza-high 13-point lead.

Georgian Court could not get anything going offensively in the second half, as the home team outscored the Lions, 47-33. USciences would increase its lead to as high as 28 points on two seperate occasions with the last such advantage coming with 2:01 to go after a Spencer Hyland (Fr.-Avondale, Pa.) jumper made the score 81-53.

Kerr led all scorers with 33 points in 33 minutes, shooting 12-for-17 from the field and 8-of-9 from the charity stripe, while securing a double-double with his game-high 11 boards. Tyrone Mann-Barnes (Sr.-Woodlynne, N.J.) followed with a 17-point effort and a team-leading three blocks. Sho DaSilva (So.-Moorestown, N.J.) added 13 points and a roster-best three steals. T-John Casiello (So.-Wildwood Crest, N.J.) dished a game-high eight assists in the win.

Jordan Wejnert continues to shine for the Lions as the junior transfer netted 17 points to go along with five boards and a game-high four swats. Keith Hughes and Rutty each scored nine points apiece while Jalen Robinson dropped in eight of his own. Alex Ramirez contributed four assists and two steals.

GCU hopes to start 2014 on the right foot when the Lions next take the floor on Saturday, January 4th, a 3:00 p.m. home game vs. Concordia College.
