Storybook Season Comes to a Close for Georgian Court Volleyball

Bridgeport, Conn.-A magical campaign came to a closeThursday evening as the 2013 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) champion-Georgian Court University volleyball squad (playing as the #8 seed) fell to the #1 seed University of Bridgeport Purple Knights in the opening round of the NCAA Division II Women's East Regional Championships.

Bridgeport took down Georgian Court in straight sets (25-15, 25-23, 25-18) to advance to the semifinals. With the victory the Purple Knights improve to 22-2 on the season with the Lions concluding the  year at 20-13.

 The Purple Knights played convincingly as the top seed by never trailing in the first and third sets and overcoming an 18-13 deficit to win the second set 25-23, en route to the 3-0 sweep. Bridgeport's Sarah Rosa (So., Itajuba, Brazil) led the offense with a game-high 14 kills and a .545 attack percentage. Classmate Ying Shen (Nanjing, China) added nine kills (.391 attack percentage) and 13 digs.

 Biljana Savic (Jr., Novi Sad, Serbia) had a team high 17 assists and added seven kills while senior setter Fernanda Silva (Brasilia, Brazil) chipped in with 15 assists. UB sophomore libero Martina Santia (Sezze, Italy) finished with a game-high 13 digs.

 Tatiana Villariny-Rodriguez, the CACC Championship Tournament MVP, recorded nine kills and five digs for the Lions. Jaslene Lopez had a game-high 28 assists on the night.
