GCU Lax Secures first Victory of Season ... Coyle Becomes Eighth Lion to Eclipse 100 Career Goals

Lakewood, N.J.- It was a day for milestones Wednesday afternoon as the Georgian Court University lacrosse squad secured its first victory of 2013, a 21-6 blasting of Nyack College in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action. Corinne Coyle led the onslaught with eight goals and two assists, which included her 100th collegiate goal.

The victory, which improves the Lions' record to 1-3-1 (1-0 CACC), was the first of Head Coach Kerry O'Donnell's collegiate coaching career. Nyack College, in only the second game of its women's lacrosse history, falls to 0-2 (0-1 CACC).

Coyle scored her milestone tally 5:27 into the first half, making her the eighth GCU lacrosse player to eclipse 100 career goals since the inception of the program in 2007.

A Lauren Lebo (Fr.-West Simsbury, Conn.) goal with 9:26 remaining in the opening stanza put the Warriors within four at 9-5. The Lions then rattled off six consecutive goals to secure a 15-5 advantage going into intermission. The Lions coasted in the second half, outscoring their opponent by a 6-1 score over the final 30 minutes.

Freshman #Melissa Williams netted a season-high four goals and collected an assist in the victory. Molly McCourt# flipped in two goals and distributed two assists. Emily Gialanella contributed a pair of goals while Jennifer Molzon netted her first two of the year. Jacqueline Buresch and Katelyn Murphy scored their first goals as Lions in the effort. Stephanie Gallo contributed a game-high four assists.

Lebo led the way for visiting Nyack with a team-high four goals and an assist.

Amanda Cathcart earned her first win of the year in the GCU net as she tallied four saves in 50 minutes of action. Stephanie Lehner made her Lions debut in the win, collecting a save in the final 10 minutes.

The Lions travel to Wilmington University Saturday afternoon for another CACC showdown. Game time is set for 1:00 PM.
