Lakewood, N.J.- Reigning Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Week
Corinne Coyle netted an eye-popping nine goals and
Amanda Cathcart collected 12 saves as the Georgian Court University lacrosse team secured its third straight victory with a 14-10 triumph over conference-rival Dominican College Wednesday afternoon.
With the win, the Lions improve to 3-3-1 on the year with a perfect 3-0 mark in conference play. The Lady Chargers drop to 1-4 on the season (1-1 CACC).
Allison Smithwick's (So.-Commack, N.Y.) first of five goals on the day gave Dominican an early 3-1 advantage. The Lions' offense took over from that point, outscoring the Lady Chargers, 8-2, over the final 17:49 of the first half as they entered intermission with a 9-5 lead.
Stephanie Gallo found the back of the net at 15:00 in the first stanza to give GCU a 4-3 lead while also giving Gallo her team-leading second game-winning goal of the season.
The two squads each collected five goals apiece in the second half, solidifying the win for the home team.
With her nine tallies, Coyle has now scored 21 goals in just three conference games and leads the CACC with 33 goals in only seven games this season.
Olivia Rotunno netted her sixth and seventh goals in the effort while Gallo collected two assists to complement her game-winning goal.
Emily Giallanella and
Melissa Williams scored a goal each for the Lions.
Smithwick's five goals paced the Dominican offense while
Christina Brennan (Fr.-Washington Township, N.J.) and
Gina Sparaco (So.-Freeport, N.Y.) each collected a pair for the Lady Chargers.
Brittany Kiernan (Fr.-Clarkstown, N.Y.)registered five saves in goal for Dominican.
The Lions do not take the field again until next Wednesday, April 3, when GCU hosts Post University at 4:00 p.m.
