Lakewood, N.J.- Bloomfield College, seeking its first victory of the year, exploded for five goals on 21 shots in a 5-1 blasting of Georgian Court University in men's soccer action Thursday afternoon on Investors Savings Bank Field.
The Deacons initiated the scoring just over five minutes (5:05) into the contest when
Marin Jonjic (So.-Podstrana, Croatia) corralled and netted a rebound that deflected off the hands and got behind GCU goalkeeper
Rylan Gentil. Bloomfield (1-3, 1-0 CACC) made it 2-0 prior to intermission when
Jonathon Waters (Sr.-St. Simon's Island, Ga.)Â popped in a corner kick, courtesy of
Morgan Lebeurre (Sr.-Gien, France), at 36:48.
The Lions (4-2, 1-1 CACC) looked to be on the comeback trail when
Sebastian Gostynski's first goal of the year, a blast to the upper right corner of the net, cut the deficit in half at 66:48. Bloomfield erased any thoughts of a GCU counter attack when the Deacons scored a trio of goals in a little over a two-minute span.Â
Shaunavon deSouza (Fr.-Montego Bay, Jamaica) put Bloomfield up 3-1 with an unassisted tally at 78:20. A mere 29 seconds later, Lebeurre increased the advantage to 4-1 on a penalty kick following a crucial Georgian Court infraction. More corner kick success for the Deacons completed the offensive onslaught when Waters headed in a Lebeurre boot at 80:30.
Bloomfield outshot GCU 21-11 with both squads getting off seven corner kicks apiece.
Arthur Clapot (Fr.-Annecy, France) earned the win in the Deacons' net with four saves. Gentil, in 45:00 of action, suffered the defeat, collecting four saves for the Lions.
GCU returns to action Saturday afternoon with a CACC match at Nyack College. Start time is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.Â
