Lakewood, N.J.- The Georgian Court University men's soccer squad continues to shine in its short history as the upstart Lions collected its second straight shutout to begin the season, a 2-0 victory over visiting University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown, Sunday afternoon on Investors Savings Bank Field.
Ben Vergara and
Michael Clarke, once again, provided the offense for the 2-0 Lions. Vergara opened the scoring 4:49 into the first half when he deposited a Clarke pass for his second tally in as many contests. Clarke answered with his third goal of the week when a
Edward Glover pass got behind UPJ netminder
Tim Ofman (So.-New Florence, Pa.) at 7:04, giving Clarke an easy opportunity.
Rylan Gentil was stellar in the Lions' net, collecting seven saves on 11 shots by the Mountain Cats (0-1), earning his second shutout and second victory of the year. Ofman also tallied seven saves on 15 GCU attempts in the defeat.
The Lions take to the road Tuesday afternoon for its first CACC match-up, a 4:00 p.m. match at Chestnut Hill College.
