Lakewood, N.J.- In their first meeting since the last season's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Soccer Championship Tournament quarterfinals, Georgian Court University and Philadelphia University took the the pitch against each other.
It was the Lady Rams, once again, who got the best of the Lions as the visitors escaped Investors Savings Bank Field with a 1-0 triumph Wednesday afternoon. The victory clinches a postseason berth for Philadelphia (9-2-1, 8-1 CACC) while GCU slips to 8-4-1 (6-3 CACC).
The lone tally of the contest came in the 61st minute of play (60:28) when
Angela Ferro (Jr.-Shelton, Conn.) one-timed a
Carla Chimielewski (Jr.-Glassboro, N.J.) cross for her fifth goal of the season. Philly owned a healthy 17-8 shot advantage while each club attempted five goals apiece.
Reigning CACC Defensive Player of the Week,
Courtney Shaw (Jr.-Langhorne, Pa.), imporved to 9-2-1, collecting four saves in the Lady Rams' net. Casey O'Connor (Jr.-Toms River, N.J.) suffered the defeat (7-3-1) as she denied eight Philly shots in the effort.
The Lions hit the road for their next competition, a 12:00 p.m. CACC match this Saturday at Post University.
