First-Place Lions Outlast Chestnut Hill College, 3-2, in CACC Halloween Volleybool Action

Lakewood, N.J.- Visiting Chestnut Hill College put quite a scare into Georgian Court University Friday evening as the Lions held off the Griffins, 3-2, in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Halloween volleyball action.

The Lions pounced to a quick 2-0 advantage after victories of 26-24 and 25-17 in the the first two sets. CHC evened the score at 2-2 after rebounding with wins of 25-23 and 25-15 before the home team avoided the divisional upset by claiming the fifth and final set, 15-11.

GCU, winners of four straight, now own sole possesion of first place in the CACC South with a conference record of 13-3 (17-12 overall) while Chestnut Hill evens its CACC mark at 8-8 (13-14 overall).  

Tatiana Villariny-Rodriguez (Sr.-Rio Grande, P.R.) topped all players with her 15 kills while Kelsey Oliver (So.-Vancouver, Wash.) achieved her eighth double-double of the season with 39 assists and 15 digs. Francheska Cedres (Gr.-Carolina, P.R.) provided a match-high 21 digs with Jennifer Smith (So.-Redlands, Calif.) following with 16 of her own.

Rachel Biro (Jr.-Nazareth, Pa.) shined for Chestnut Hill with 14 kills as Melissa Shunk (Fr.-Laguna Niguel, Calif.) drilled 12 of her own. Alyssa Tamsing (Jr.-Ventura, Calif.) came within one dig of a double-double (33 assists, nine digs). Regina Trabosh (So.-Norristown, Pa.) controlled a team-high 19 digs, followed by 16 from Peyton Reno (Fr.-Wilmington, Del.) and 11 each from Meghan Chiovitti (Jr.-Brighton, Colo.) and Madison McBride (So.-Long Beach, Calif.).

Georgian Court returns to the floor Saturday afternoon with a road trip to Nyack College.
