Lakewood, N.J.- The Georgian Court University volleyball squad, the reigning Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) champions, saw its dreams of a repeat crumble as the top-seeded Lions dropped a 3-0 decision to Post University, 3-0, Friday afternoon in the GCU Wellness Center.
The defeat ends GCU's season with a record of 20-14 while the Eagles (21-10) will face Caldwell University in Saturday's CACC Championship Tournament title game at noon. The Cougars topped Wilmington University, 3-1, in the other semifinal showdown of the afternoon.
Post made fairly easy work of the Lions as it breezed to set wins of 25-20, 25-16, and 25-21.
Both
Morgan Griffin (So.-Plainfield, Conn.) and
Emily Wilman (Sr.-Perth Amboy, N.J.) each garnered a match-best 11 kills while Wilman and
Skylar German (So.-Kansas City, Mo.) corralled nine digs each for the victors.
Julia Slyaktina (Sr.-Moscow, Russia) dished 35 assists in the win.
Tatiana Villariny Rodriguez (Sr.-Rio Grande, P.R.), in her final collegiate match, led the Lions with 11 kills while
Francheska Cedres (Gr.-Carolina, P.R.), also playing her final match, registered 10 digs.
Kelsey Oliver (So.-Vancouver, Wash,) distributed 29 assists.
