Nyack, N.Y.- In match that was eerily similar to the one they played a night earlier vs. Chestnut Hill College, the Georgian Court University volleyball squad again earned a 3-2 victory after winning the first two sets and losing the next two before pulling out the triumph in a fifth-and-deciding set, this time at Nyack College on Saturday afternoon.
The Lions (18-12, 14-3 CACC) secured victories of 25-17 and 25-9 before the Warriors (2-29, 2-15 CACC) rallied for wins of 25-23 and 25-22 to force the deciding frame, which GCU swiped by an 18-16 count.
First-place Georgian Court has now won five straight matches while Nyack has fallen short in four consecutive outings.
Anabelle Barinas (Sr.-Newark, N.J.) and
Kelsie Blue (So.-Waretown, N.J.) tallied a team-high 11 kills while
Jhoan Agosto Rivera (Sr.-Carolina, P.R.) contributed 10.
Kelsey Oliver (So.-Vancouver, Wash.) registered her second straight double-double (and ninth of the season) with her 35 assists and 14 digs.
Francheska Cedres (Gr.-Carolina, P.R.) topped the Lions with 25 digs, followed by
Dara Schroeder (Sr.-Bordentown, N.J.) and
Taylor Winchester (Jr.-Hesperia, Calif.) with 16 and 11 digs, respectively.
Lindsay Miller (Fr.-Chandler, Ariz.) shined for Nyack with a triple-double consisting of 11 kills, 12 assists, and 10 digs. Teammate
Jillian Smith (Fr.-Oceanside, Calif.) added a double-double with 25 assists and 10 digs as did
Kelsi Collins (Fr.-Tarpon Springs, Fla.) with her 11 kills and 19 digs.
Paige Burrell (So.-Ripon, Calif.) led all players with 26 digs while
Alexus Winters (Fr.-Yorba Linda, Calif.) added 21.
GCU returns home Wednesday evening for its annual Senior Night celebration, followed by a 7:00 p.m. CACC divisional showdown vs. the University of the Sciences.
