Lakewood, N.J.- Intensity was in great supply during tonight's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) men's basketball contest between Georgian Court University and Holy Family University as the teams competed for forty minutes of exciting hoops action.
The Lions raced out to an early 22-16 lead behind the strong play of
Michael Pierre (Fr. Melrose, NY) and
Juwuan Carter (Fr. Paterson, NJ) before extending it to 31-17 after a thunderous dunk by senior
Jordan Wejnert (Pt. Pleasant, NJ). The Lions shot a blistering 7-of-12 from long range in the first half. The Tigers quickly answered back by draining seven three-pointers of their own to take a 40-38 lead into the locker room. Holy Family continued to have the hot hand to start the second half as they opened up the second stanza on a 17-8 run. The Lions were able to cut into the Tiger-lead as
Chris Polanco (Fr. New York, NY) nailed a three with under 13 minutes to play making the score 57-54, but that would be as close as they could get before Holy Family pulled away late for the 84-70 victory.
The Lions were led by Carter's 19 point performance and Pierre's 12 point, five-assist game, but Holy Family's Reggie Charles (R-Jr.-Philadelphia, PA) (21 points) was one of five Tigers in double-digits on the night and proved to be enough to push the HFU (3-1, 1-0 CACC) to the win.
Georgian Court fell to 2-4 (0-2 CACC) on the season will look to get back on the winning track as they travel to Pace University for a post-Thanksgiving match-up on Saturday with tip-off scheduled for 3:30pm.
