Old Westbury, N.Y.- The Georgian Court University men's basketball squad proved to be extremely tractable Saturday afternoon as the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) coasted to a 92-59 non-conference victory over the visiting Lions.
GCU, which defeated the Bears a year ago (11/23/13) in the Wellness Center, 80-79, loses its seventh straight and falls to 2-8 on the season while NYIT improves to 3-6 overall.
The host-Bears cruised the entire contest, leading by a comfortable surplus of 60-34 heading into intermission. The Lions kept the second-stanza deficit much closer at 32-25, but the outcome was already solidified.
NYIT's
Darian Hooker (Sr.-Washington, D.C.) topped all players with his 22 points and seven assists in 32 minutes of action. Teammate
Jerrel Green (Jr.-Stockton, Calif.) added a double-double of 10 points and 10 assists, to go along with a game-high five blocks in 16 minutes off the Bears' bench.
As for the Lions,
Keith Hughes (So.-Woodbridge, N.J.) shot 7-for-16 from the floor and compiled a team-high 19 points in 36 minutes.
Michael Pierre (Fr.-Melrose. N.Y.) dropped in 12 while
Juwuan Carter (Fr.-Paterson, N.J.) contributed 11 as both played 24 minutes apiece in the affair.
Georgian Court returns to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) competition Wednesday evening when they travel to Wilmington University for a 6:00 p.m. showdown.
