Lakewood, N.J.- In a contest that was originally scheduled to be played at Bloomfield College, the Deacons instead traveled south to Georgian Court University and defeated the Lions, 103-82, Saturday afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) men's basketball action. The game was moved to GCU's Welllness Center Arena due to icy conditions on Bloomfield's campus.
With the victory, BC improves to 16-7 (14-2 CACC) while the GCU men slide to 2-21 (0-16 CACC).
Georgian Court enjoyed a positive start to the afternoon as a
Robert Ashamole three-pointer provided the Lions with a 20-15 lead 6:11 into the first stanza. That lead evaporated, however, after a Bloomfield run of 13-0 gave the Deacons a 28-20 advantage with 11:27 to go before intermission. BC increased its surplus to 42-29 with 6:43 left before a GCU spurt of 15-6 put the Lions to within four points (48-44) with 29 ticks before the halftime buzzer.
The Lions kept pace with Bloomfield, trailing only 78-72 with 7:49 remaining in regulation, before the Deacons ran away with the victory after a 25-10 run over the final minutes sealed the "W".
Bloomfield's
Claude Blue (So.-Brooklyn, N.Y.) shined for the Deacons with a double-double effort of 20 points and 14 rebounds.
Marvin Williams (Jr.-Jersey City, N.J.) topped all scorers with his 21 points, while providing four assists and three steals.
Dondre Whitmore (Sr.-Trenton, N.J.) also reached the 20-point plateau, which included a game-best six three-pointers.
Steve Henderson (Sr.-West Orange, N.J.) and
Matt Hall (Jr.-Brooklyn, N.Y.) added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Jordan Wejnert paced the Lions with a team-high 20-points and nine rebounds.
Jalen Robinson drained 19 points in the outing while
Lindon Lulgjuraj dropped in 13 points and snared seven rebounds.
Trey Jones, Alex Ramirez, and
Luca Zgonjanin provided nine points apiece.
GCU returns to action Tuesday evening with an 8:00 p.m. CACC contest at Chestnut Hill College. The Lions fell to the Griffins, 73-61, back on January 11 in the "Well".
