Plymouth Meeting, Pa.- The Georgian Court University lacrosse squad took its seven-game winning streak on the road Saturday afternoon as the Lions travelled to Chestnut Hill College for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest. On a miserable day disrupted by rain, GCU outlasted the Griffins, 9-8, to remain undefeated in conference play (6-0) while improving to 8-2 after their eighth straight triumph.
The Griffins still seek their first win of the year, falling to 0-9 (0-3 CACC) overall.
Callie Brown, Emily Gialanella, and
Cat Dee each netted an early first-half tally to provide Georgian Court with a 3-0 lead at the 18:33 mark. Chestnut Hill responded with avengence as the Griffins scored five unanswered goals to take a 5-3 advantage with 13:04 to go. Two more scores by Dee (11:09, 8:57) followed by a
Kerry Stader (6:39) and
Melissa Williams (0:16) goal put GCU ahead, 7-5, at the intermission.
Chestnut Hill's
Samantha Herron put the home team within one at 7-6 after an unassisted score 4:26 into the second stanza. Dee's fourth goal of the afternoon put the Lions up 8-6 at 21:47 before the Griffins netted two straight to tie the affair at 8-all with 5:34 left in regulation. Brown would be the one to step forward for GCU and snap the stalemate, scoring the game-winner at the 3:19 mark.
Stephanie Lehner shined again in the GCU net, improving to 8-0 after gathering an impressive 10 saves. Chestnut Hill's
Katie Joe Lang dropped to 0-9 as the netminder secured seven saves.
The Lions travel to the Nutmeg State Wednesday for CACC road game at Post University, starting at 3:00 p.m. GCU defeated the Eagles, 19-6, back on March 20.
