Orangeburg, N.Y.- Georgian Court University rebounded splendidly from Saturday's difficult loss to Holy Family University with a clutch Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division win vs. Dominican College Monday as the Lions defeated the Lady Chargers, 11-10, in women's lacrosse action.
The Lions improve to 9-2 in conference play (12-4 overall) while Dominican drops to 7-2 vs. the CACC and an 8-4 season record.
Christina Brennan (So.-Washington Twp., N.J.) put the Lady Chargers ahead first at 1-0 with a goal 2:03 into the game. GCU's
Callie Brown and
Silvetta Agosto followed with a goal each to provide the Lions with a 2-1 lead at 15:18. Brennan proceeded to sink two more tallies to reclaim the lead at 3-2 for Dominican.
Agosto ripped home her second score of the contest to tie the affair at 3-3 with 14:19 left, followed by a go-ahead tally by
Molly McCourt at 12:25. After both squads alternated goals to make the score 5-4 Lions, Dominican countered with two straight 1:04 apart to take 6-5 advantage with 3:42 remaining. GCU's Cat Dee found the back of the net with just 1:27 remaining in the half to enter intermission knotted at 6-6.
Callie Brown secured her second score of the contest 3:19 into the second stanza, providing the Lions with a slim 7-6 surplus before the Lady Chargers countered with three unanswered tallies, giving the home team a 9-7 lead with 18:57 left in regulation.
Melissa Williams (15:50) and Agosto (12:30) added goals to cause a 9-9 stalemate.
Haliann Fitzgerald (Fr.-Walden, N.Y.) put Dominican ahead, 10-9, with her goal with 12:17 left before Brown completed her hat trick with a game-tying tally with 9:17 on the clock. With the game locked at 10-10, Williams fired home the game-winner at 8:49 to secure the important divisional victory.
Stephanie Lehner continues to shine in the GCU net, improving to 12-2 with eight saves in the outing. Dominican's
Brittany Kiernan (So.-Clarkstown, N.Y.) suffered the defeat, collecting 11 saves in the effort.
