Lions Hold Off Division Rival Wilmington University, 3-2, in CACC Volleyball Thriller

Lakewood, N.J.- In what has developed into the premiere volleyball rivalry of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC), Georgian Court University and Wilmington University provided its usual "must-see" thriller, a five-set bonanza that ended with the the Lions walking away with the "W" Tuesday evening in the GCU Wellness Center.

With the triumph, Georgian Court evens its overall mark at 3-3 (1-1 CACC) while the Wildcats dip to 3-7 (1-1 CACC) on the year. The Lions have now won two straight meetings against Wilmington since snapping a streak of eight consecutive losses to the division foe in last season's CACC Championship Tournament semifinals. Four of those eight defeats went to five sets.

GCU certainly had sweep on its mind on this particular night as the home team grabbed a 2-0 lead with wins of 25-20 and 25-21. WU answered the bell with comeback triumphs of 25-18 and 25-23, respectively. The Wildcats appeared to be on its way to a stellar comeback, owning an 8-3 lead at the fifth-set switch, but the Lions had other ideas, outscoring the visitors, 12-5, to secure the win and halt the cat fight.

Three members of the victors collected over ten kills in the outing, led by Tatiana Villariny Rodriguez's (Sr.-Rio Grande, P.R.) game-high 17. Fellow senior Jhoan Agosto Rivera (Carolina, P.R.) followed with 14 of her own while Kelsie Blue (So.-Waretown, N.J.) added 11.

Kelsey Oliver (So.-Vancouver, Wash.) registered the Lions' second double-double of the campaign with her 14 digs and match-best 48 assists. Francheska Cedres (Gr.-Carolina, P.R) topped all players with 23 digs while Dara Schroeder (Sr.-Bordentown, N.J.) and Taylor Winchester (Jr.-Hesperia, Calif.) provided 11 apiece.

Alex Siolos (Jr.-East Moriches, N.Y.) dazzled for the Wildcats with eight kills, 12 digs, and 11 assists. Kasey Couch (Sr.-Woodbine, Md.) contributed a double-double of her own with 15 assists and 12 digs. Kaitlin DiGiacinto (Jr.-Glen Burnie, Md.) paced the Wilmington offense with her nine kills, complementing her 16 digs. Shelby Henderson (Jr.-Wilmington, Del.) led the squad with 18 digs.

Georgian Court enjoys a well-earned day off before returning to action Thursday night when the Lions host Adelphi University at 7:00 p.m.
