Adelphi University Holds Off Lions, 3-1, in Non-Conference Volleyball Action

Lakewood, N.J.- In non-conference volleyball action, visiting Adelphi University of the Northeast-10  held off host-Georgian Court University, 3-1, Thursday evening in the GCU Wellness Center. The win was the first of the season for the 1-9 Panthers while the Lions dip to 3-4 on the young campaign.

Adelphi took the initial set, 25-23, before Georgian Court countered with a 25-21 win in set two. The Panthers proceeded to claim the next two sessions, which included a thrilling 28-26 triumph in the fourth-and-final frame (25-18 score in set three).

Mandy Stanislovaitis (So.-West Chester, Ohio) led the way for the Adelphi offense with her team-best 11 kills, followed by ten from Kaitlyn DeStefano (Sr.-Farmingdale, N.Y.). Alayna Jackson (Jr.-McKinney, Texas) garnered a double-double with 34 assists and 11 digs. Sierra Cook (So.-Spokane, Wash.) led all players with 23 digs.

Tatiana Villariny Rodriguez (Sr.-Rio Grande, P.R.) topped the Lions with 11 kills while Kelsey Oliver (So.-Vancouver, Wash.) contributed her second straight double-double with 37 assists and 14 digs. Jennifer Smith (So.-Redlands, Calif.) came within a kill (9 kills, 11 digs) of her own double-double while Francheska Cedres (Gr.-Carolina, P.R.) controlled 10 digs for the Lions.

GCU takes to the road for the first time in 2014 this weekend as they participate in the Bentley University Invitational Saturday in Waltham, Massachusetts. The Lions will take on the University of Montevallo (Alabama) at 3:00 p.m. before facing the host-Falcons at 5:00 p.m.
