Women's Soccer Halts Nyack, 3-1, as Jim Moore Earns 100th Victory at Helm of Lions

Head Coach Jim Moore
Lakewood, N.J.- A journey that began almost exactly nine years ago to the day enjoyed a reflective pause Saturday afternoon after the Georgian Court University women's soccer squad dismissed Nyack College, 3-1, in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action.

The journey belongs to GCU head coach, Jim Moore, the newest member of the 100-win club ... an excursion that commenced way back on September 21, 2005 with a 2-0 home blanking of Felician College.

Morgan Peacock (So.-Edison, N.J.) began the party planning at 15:59 when she laced in a direct kick, putting the Lions up 1-0 with her 4th goal of the season. Nyack's Krystal Vega (Jr.-Anaheim Hills, Calif.) controlled a Katherine Oldfield (So.-Bolton, UK) feed and found the back of the GCU goal at 39:04 to even the match at 1-1.

Peacock snapped the stalemate and put the home team ahead for good at 58:46 when she laced a Tori Capestro (Jr.-Brick, N.J.) pass into the upper left of the Nyack net for her second tally of the game and team-leading fifth of the season. Rosa Franze (Fr.-Ocean, N.J.) iced the proverbial cake for Coach Moore and the Lions when she darted for a breakway goal (2nd of the year) at 84:02 to increase the GCU advantage to 3-1.

Georgian Court (4-1, 3-0 CACC) outshot Nyack (2-4, 2-1 CACC), 23-5, and owned a 5-2 advantage when it came to corner kicks.

Casey O'Connor (Jr.-Toms River, N.J.) improved to 4-0 as the Lions' netminder, collecting two saves in the key conference victory. Nyack's Madeline Barbarino (Sr.-Staten Island, N.Y.) suffered the tough-luck defeat as she tallyed 12 saves in the defeat.

The Lions return to action this Tuesday afternoon when they host CACC preseason favorite, Holy Family University, at 3:30 p.m.
