Lakewood, N.J.- The Georgian Court University volleyball squad snapped a season-high six-game slide Saturday in grand fashion as the Lions earned two victories in a Homecoming Day tri-match with Bloomfield College and Southern Connecticut State University in the GCU Wellness Center.
GCU (5-9, 2-2 CACC) opened the day with a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match vs. Bloomfield College in which the Lions dropped the newly-monikered Bears, 3-1. Bloomfield took the opening set, 26-24, before Georgian Court rattled off victories of 25-13, 25-21, and 25-23 to secure the conference "W".
Tatiana Villariny Rodriguez (Sr.-Rio Grande, P.R.) enjoyed a 16-kill effort in the triumph while teammate
Anabelle Barinas (Sr.-Newark, N.J.) provided 13 kills of her own.
Kelsey Oliver (So.-Vancouver, Wash.) dished 25 assists.
Francheska Cedres (Gr.-Carolina, P.R.) led the way with 12 digs, followed by
Taylor Winchester (Jr.-Hesperia, Calif.) with 11.
Diannmarie Rivera (Jr-Trujillo Alto, P.R.) carried the Bloomfield offense, registering a double-double with 14 kills and 19 digs.
Samantha Rios (Fr.-Juncos, P.R.) controlled 20 digs while
Jacquelyn Madlock (So.-Alta Loma, Calif.) distributed 29 assists for the Bears.
In their second contest of the day, the Lions made quick work of SCSU, breezing past the Owls by a 3-0 score (25-22, 25-18, 25-14). Villariny-Rodriguez once again topped the Lions , this time with nine kills. Cedres matched that number with her team-high nine kills. Oliver collected 22 assists in the non-conference win.
Alexandria Jurgins (Fr.-Cornwall, N.Y.) led the visitors with eight kills while
Taylor Carlson (Jr.-Centennial, Colo.) provided 12 assists.
Morgan Carmen (Jr.-Mesa, Ariz.) controlled 17 digs.
Georgian Court returns to the floor Wednesday evening with a 7:00 p.m. home match vs. Queens College.
