Lakewood, N.J.- As they did a day earlier, the Georgian Court University volleyball team split its two games with a 3-1 defeat to Southern New Hampshire University and a 3-0 blanking of Mercy College on the final day of the inaugural GCU Lions Invitational.

The Lions (2-2) dropped the opening set to the Penmen, 25-17, before evening the score at 1-1 with a set two triumph of 25-22. SNHU proceeded to snag two hard-fought victories in sets three (25-21) and four (25-20) to secure the win.

Carolyn Scacchi (Fr.-Peabody, Mass.) led the Penmen offense with a match-best 12 kills. Catherine Cotton (Jr.-Murphy, Texas) set the mark with her 40 assists while Maeghan Higgins (Hesperia, Calif.) and Kendra Mikuta (Sr.-Orland Park, Ill.) registered a team-high 11 digs apiece.

Jhoan Agosto Rivera (Sr.-Carolina, P.R.) led the Lions with her 11 kills, followed by Tatiana Villariny-Rodriguez (Sr.-Rio Grande, P.R.) and Taylor Winchester (Hesparia, Calif.) with 10 each. Winchester also gathered 11 digs to earn the Lions' first double-double of the season

Amanda Rodriguez (Fr.-Bel Air, Md.) collected a career-high 30 assists in the outing while Kelsey Oliver (So.-Vancouver, Wash.) distributed 10 of her own. Francheska Cedres (Gr.-Carolina, P.R.), who earned selection to the all-tournament squad, controlled 10 digs in the outing.

GCU battled past Mercy College (0-3) in the nightcap, winning by scores of 25-22, 27-25, and 25-18.

Villariny-Rodriguez put down a game-high 12 kills while Oliver dished 28 assists. Winchester led the Lions with her six digs in the victory.

Brenna White (Sr.-Gardnerville, Nev.) paced the Mavericks with a double-double, which included 11 digs and 10 kills. McKenna Ronan (Sr.-Chandler, Ariz.) fed a team-high 28 assists in the effort. 

Georgian Court returns to action Thursday evening when they host CACC-rival Goldey-Beacom College at 7:00 p.m.
