Lakewood, N.J.- The Georgian Court University volleyball squad, looking for a quality elixir for the sour stomachs they nursed after Wednesday's upset setback at Chestnut Hill, discovered the perfect fix Saturday as the Lions dismissed both Post University and Pace University in a thrilling home tri-match in the GCU Wellness Center.
The Lions (10-10, 5-3 CACC) opened the day vs. their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference foe, Post, in the squads' first encounter since the semifinals of the 2014 Championship Tournament when the Eagles dispatched GCU en route to the conference crown.
Post (14-7, 7-2 CACC) escaped the first set, 27-25, and appeared to be on their way to repeating the fate of a year ago. GCU proved to have other plans as the Lions clawed their way to victory with three nail-biting wins of 25-21, 25-22, and 25-23.
The GCU trio of
Kelsey Oliver (40 assists, 11 digs),
Peggy Rosario (17 kills, 22 digs) and
Taylor Winchester (12 kills, 13 digs) dazzled on the hardwood as each secured a double-double.
Nerishka Cruz De La Rosa topped all players with her 37 digs in the mighty conference triumph.
Georgian Court, after dropping set one by the score of 25-17, again proved its mettle in the nigthcap vs. Pace University (9-12) and proceeded to claim the next three games (25-22, 25-20, 25-16) to solidify the non-conference "W" vs. the Setters.
Oliver (46 assists, 13 digs) and Rosario (11 kills, 18 digs) replicated double-double efforts in the victory, while Winchester smashed a match-best 17 kills. Cruz De La Rosa did the same with her 25 digs.
