Lakewood, N.J.- In a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) showdown that seemed destined for a 0-0 draw, Georgian Court University's
Spencer Dunn had other plans Saturday as the freshman netted the biggest goal of his young collegiate career with 2:35 remaining in overtime to lift the Lions to a remarkable 1-0 victory over visiting Concordia College.
After initial shots off the boots of GCU's
Michael Clarke and
Ricardo Vascones were turned away by Concordia's sprawling keeper,
Ruel Gordon, Dunn drilled a resulting carom for the winner, sending his teammates into hysterics.
The victory, GCU's fourth straight, improves the Lions' overall mark to 6-4-2 (4-2-2 CACC) and secures the program's best record of its young three-year history. Concordia falls to 6-5-1 (4-5-1 CACC) after the stunning setback.
Aleksander Milosevic dazzled in the GCU net, securing five saves in the keeper's second shutout on the year.
The Lions now set their sights on Tuesday afternoon when they travel to Philadelphia University for a 2:30 p.m. conference match vs. the Rams.
