Flushing, N.Y.- The Georgian Court University women's volleyball squad had its five-game winning streak squashed Tuesday night as the Lions dropped a crushing 3-2 decision to Queens College in non-conference competition.
The Lions (16-12) opened the match with a thrilling 28-26 win in set one. The Knights countered with victories of 25-20 and 25-18 before GCU evened the affair at 2-2 with a 25-18 win in set four. Queens (7-13) went on to edge its guests in the fifth and final frame, 15-13, to secure the triumph.
Taylor Winchester registered her seventh double-double of the season for Georgian Court with 18 kills and 14 digs.
Melanee Coleman soared with her 10 kills.
Peggy Rosario controlled 15 digs and connected on eight kills.
Nerishka Cruz De La Rosa, named Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Defensive Player of the Week earlier in the day, settled 20 digs and dropped in four service aces.
Kelsey Oliver distributed 37 assists while
Kelsie Blue clubbed seven kills and tallied five solo blocks.
GCU returns to CACC action Thursday evening with a 7:15 p.m. match at the University of the Sciences.
