West Caldwell, N.J.- The Georgian Court University women's soccer squad completed what may be the most dominant regular season in the NCAA Division II-era of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Thursday afternoon as the Lions coasted to a 4-0 win at Caldwell University, clinching first place and the #1 seed in next week's CACC Championship Tournament.
GCU completes the first stage of its ultimate goal with a perfect 11-0-1 record in conference play (14-2-2 overall). The Lions thwarted the opposition, outscoring CACC foes by a margin of 43-2 (58-9 overall) while posting a miniscule 0.49 goals-aganst average after today's record-12th shutout of the year.
The Lions' 14 regular-season victories are the most in program history since Georgian Court College won 19 during the NAIA era of 1995.
The visitors pounced early in Thursday's contest as
Jessica Constantine netted her third of the year at 8:14 from five yards out, courtesy of a
Tayler Bramley assist. After a scoring drought of 50:32,
Lauren Mendez booted home her first of the year at 58:46 to put the Lions up 2-0.
Lizzy Kroon crunched her team-leading 17th tally at 63:34, connecting on a
Tori Capestro feed from 15 yards out. Bramley closed out the affair with her ninth of the season, heading in a Kroon cross at 65:40.
Casey O'Connor continued her dominance between the pipes for the Lions, collecting two saves in the blanking as the keeper improved her personal mark to 14-2-2. The Lions outshot the Cougars (9-7-1, 8-2-1 CACC), 15-4.
Georgian Court now prepares for Tuesday as the Lions will host #8-seed Goldey-Beacom College (5-7 CACC, 7-9 overall) in the CACC quarterfinals. Start time is set for 2:00 p.m. GCU previously defeated the Lightning, 4-0, back on October 7th on Investors Savings Bank Field.
