Clarke Enjoys Record Performance as GCU Men Hand 6-2 Defeat to Goldey-Beacom

Lakewood, N.J.- A team-record five goals from Michael Clarke paced the Georgian Court University men's soccer squad to a victory Tuesday afternoon as the Lions secured a key Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) win vs. visiting Goldey-Beacom College.

GCU improves to 3-2-2 in conference play (4-4-2 overall) while the Lightning dim to an overall mark of 3-7 (2-4 CACC).

The Lions fell behind initially at 13:31 when Fernando Sanchez (So.-Madrid, Spain) put Goldey-Beacom ahead, 1-0, after connecting on a slow-rolling cross from Chahin Aghrim (Fr.-Bonn, Germany) in front of the GCU net.

That goal served as an opening act for the "Michael Clarke Show" as the junior exploded for five consecutive tallies to put Georgian Court ahead by a mighty margin of 5-1. Combined with his hat trick in Saturday's 8-0 win vs. Felician College, Clarke now has eight goals over his last two outings.

Now the CACC-leader in goals, Tuesday's scoring outburst ties Michael with three others for second in the nation (NCAA Division II), trailing only Connor Gilmour of Cedarville University (13 goals).

Sanchez netted his second of the afternoon for Goldey-Beacom at 70:58 to cut the deficit to 5-2. Emiliano Baquerizo then proceeded to seal the win for GCU at 81:39 after taking a Will Green feed to the net on a breakaway effort for his first score of the season.

Georgian Court outshot the Lightning, 19-12.

Aleksander Milosevic corralled seven saves in 90:00 minutes for the Lions, improving to 4-3-2 in the GCU net.

GCU next travels to Caldwell University this Saturday for another CACC encounter. Start time is set for 2:30 p.m.
