Lakewood, N.J.- The Georgian Court University volleyball squad thrilled the home crowd Saturday afternoon as the Lions toppled first-place Philadelphia University, 3-1, in the regular-season finale for both teams.
Prior to the contest, GCU enjoyed its annual Senior Day celebration as the Lions honored its senior trio of
Anna Lapinskas,
Megan Searles, and
Taylor Winchester.
In a tightly-contested match, the Lions secured victories in sets one and two by scores of 25-20 and 27-25. The Lady Rams rebounded with a set three win of 25-23 before GCU shut the lid on the visitors, 25-22, in the fourth-and-final set.
Winners of three straight, Georgian Court secures the #3 seed in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) South Division with a record of 20-14 (13-6 CACC). The Lady Rams had its six-game winning snapped with the defeat as Philadelphia (20-6, 16-3 CACC) enters Tuesday's quarterfinals as the #1 seed in the South.
Winchester provided a sensational performance for the Lions as she tallied a game-best 19 kills and 19 digs in the double-double effort.
Kelsey Oliver also earned membership to the double-double club with her 42 assists and 12 digs.
Melanee Coleman buried 10 kills in the victory while
Nerishka Cruz De La Rosa collected 16 digs.
GCU now travels to Bloomfield College Tuesday evening (7:00 p.m.) to take on the #2-seed in the North Division. The Bears defeated the Lions, 3-0, in a home match back on October 31.
