Waterbury, Conn.-The Georgian Court University women's soccer squad, taking the pitch as the #1 seed with its 15-2-2 record and perfect 11-0-1 mark, suffered a stunning season-ending defeat Thursday as #5 Caldwell University knocked off the favorites, 2-1, to advance to Saturday's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship Tournament title game.

The Cougars rebounded from a 4-0 home defeat vs.Georgian Court last Thursday and will now take on Philadelphia University in the championship round. The #6 Lady Rams defeated #7 Felician University, 1-0, to earn the title appearance.

Tuere Chisholm-Thomas kicked off the scoring at 27:42 when she connected on a Katie Vecchio cross to put GCU ahead initially. The advantage would hold until Caldwell's Emily Valerian slipped in the equalizer with just 1:30 remaining in the first half.

In a second stanza during which the Cougars controlled the pace, Ashley King would deposit the game-winner at 52:13, clubbing in a a free ball set up by a Caldwell corner kick.

The Lions doubled Caldwell in the shot department, 16-8, and owned an 8-3 advantage regarding corner kicks, but the Lions could not build the neccesary momentum that was ever-present throughout the year.

Caldwell goalkeeper Mary Kanzler stopped four shots to earn the shocking victory. Casey O'Connor made three saves for the Lions in the final match of the senior's storied collegiate career, including an dazzling diving save on a penalty kick in the second to keep the Lions alive.
