Lakewood, N.J.- The Georgian Court University volleyball squad secured a key victory Saturday afternoon vs.visiting Chestnut Hill College as the Lions dispatched the Griffins, 3-1, to snap a tie between the two squads in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division standings.
GCU dropped CHC in four sets (25-13, 25-22, 25-27, 25-21) to redeem a 3-2 loss to the conference foe exactly a month ago in Philadelphia and two snap a divisional tie between the two teams. The victory moves the Lions (18-14, 11-6 CACC) alone into third place while the Griffins (11-19, 10-7 CACC) fall into a fourth-place tie with Holy Family University in a battle for the final playoff spot.
Kelsie Blue entered the contest needing three blocks to eclipse the Georgian Court program record of 364 put-backs. The junior more than doubled the necessary number, deflecting seven Chestnut Hill kill attempts back to the other side of the net to earn the team crown. Blue also pelted seven kills on the afternoon.
Peggy Rosario (15 kills, 14 digs) and
Kelsey Oliver (36 assists, 13 digs) provided double-doubles for the victors while
Taylor Winchester fell just one kill short (9 kills, 15 digs) of doing the same.
Nerishka Cruz De La Rosa topped all players with her 29 digs.
The Lions return to action this Tuesday evening when they travel to Goldey-Beacom College for a 7 p.m. divisional match.
