Lakewood, NJ- The Georgian Court University Lions men's basketball team took the floor Tuesday night against #21 University of the Sciences and, for the first half of play, went toe-to-toe with the national power before eventually falling, 72-59, in the final game of the 2014-2015 season.
The evening was highlighted by the pre-game ceremony of the first-ever GCU men's basketball graduating senior,
Jordan Wejnert.Â
Wejnert, playing in his last game as a Lion, finished the game with 12 points, bringing his GCU career point total to 833 in just two seasons.
Keith Hughes led the way for the Lions with 17 points while grabbing seven rebounds. Georgian Court held an early lead, but saw USP finish the half with a slight 34-32 lead. In the second half, the Devils started to pull away, eventually closing out the game and improving to a league best 23-4 (17-2 CACC) on the season.
For the Sciences,
Garret Kerr (Avalon, NJ) had a big game with 22 points,12 rebounds, and 5 assists. He was helped by
Sho Da- Silva (Moorestown, NJ), who also poured in 22 points off the bench.
Georgian Court will now go into the off-season coming off a year where they improved their overall win total by three. The team continued to see program firsts including their first CACC win and their first road victory. With a number of players returning for next season, the excitement of GCU basketball is growing and a berth the CACC tournament is not too far off.
