Rockville Centre, N.Y.- After trailing by an 8-2 margin at intermission, the Georgian Court University women's lacrosse team stepped up its game in the second stanza, eventually falling to to Molloy College, 14-8, Wednesday evening in non-conference action.
Molloy (2-2) netted the first six tallies of the first half before GCU's
Stephanie Gallo put the Lions on the board at the 18:02 mark. The host-Lions followed with three more goals. Georgian Court's
Taylor Bauerband slinged in the final goal of the half with a free-position effort just 13 seconds before the horn.
GCU and Molloy traded six goals apiece in the second as Georgian Court's
Melissa Williams and
Emily Gialanella poured in a pair each for the Lions.
Laura Vetter (Sr. Great River, N.Y.) earned the win for Molloy, collecting seven saves in the effort.
Stephanie Lehner suffered the loss between the GCU pipes, collecting two saves in first-half action.
Williams continues her stellar start to the campaign for GCU, compiling two goals and three assists to increase her season totals to 12 goals and six assists over three contests. The junior is just three goals short of the elite 100-goal mark for her career.
The Lions return to action this Saturday at 3:00 p.m. vs. #12 West Chester University. The GCU home game will be played at the Reynolds Athletic Complex in Neptune, N.J.Â
