Hillburn, NY.- After a Melissa Williams goal tied the game at 11-all with just 24 seconds remaining, Dominican College's Emily Murray (Sr.-Oakdale, N.Y.) slipped in a Haliann Fitzgerald (So.-Walden, N.Y.) pass with just one tick left on the clock, allowing the Chargers to escape with a 12-11 triumph over Georgian Court Tuesday afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's lacrosse action.

In the first CACC contest of the year for both teams, the Chargers improved to 1-4 (1-0 CACC) while the Lions dropped to 1-4 (0-1 CACC).

With Dominican owning a 3-1 lead with 25:29 remaining in the first half, GCU stormed back with four unanswered goals to take a 5-3 advantage with 10:37 on the clock. Not to be outdone, the Chargers' Christina Brennan (Jr.-Washington Township, N.J.) tied the game single-handedly with goals at 2:30 and 1:34 respectively.

The home team proceeded to score the first three tallies of the second stanza, building an 8-5 surplus with 26:29 to go. In a game of scoring streaks, Georgian Court rattled off five straight points, regaining the lead at 10-8 with 13:59 left.

In keeping with the ebb an flow of the day, the Chargers answered with three more net-rattlers to secure an 11-10 lead with only 2:52 remaining.

Brittany Kiernan (Jr.-Clarkstown, N.Y.) was the winning goalkeeper on the day, collecting eight saves in the effort. Stephanie Lehner totalled an impressive 14 saves in the defeat, playing all 60:00.

Williams again carried the GCU offense with seven goals and two assists in the losing effort. Taylor Bauerband snapped in two goals of her own.

Brennan and Murray provided hat tricks for the victors.

Things do not get easier for the Lions as they next take on conference-foe Holy Family University Sunday evening at 6:00 p.m. in Cherry Hill, N.J.
