Cherry Hill, N.J.- The Georgian Court University women's lacrosse squad could not overcome an early first-half deficit as Holy Family University held off the Lions, 16-12, in a Central Atlantic Colegiate Conference (CACC) Sunday night clash at Camden Catholic High School.
The victory improves the Tigers to 3-3 on the year (2-0 CACC) while GCU tumbles to 1-5 (0-2 CACC).
HFU pounced to an immediate 6-0 advantage in the first stanza, which included three goals alone from
Paige Settar (Jr.-Mullica Hill, N.J.) in the initial 17:07 of the contest. The Lions proceeded to respond by netting five of the half's remaining six goals to cut the Tigers' lead to 7-5 at intermission.
The home team nearly duplicated its first half performance in the second, this time commencing the session with five straight tallies and mounting a 12-5 lead with 22:56 remaining in regulation. The Lions would go on to outscore the Tigers, 7-4, over the remaining time, but they could not completely close the gap.
Grace Deckert (Jr.-Jarrettsville, Md.) went the distance in net for HFU, collecting eight saves in the win.
Stephanie Lehner was saddled with the loss for GCU, grabbing five saves in 30:00.
Settar finished the evening with seven goals and two assists for Holy Family while teammate
Nicole Braungart (Jr.-Medford, N.J.) unleashed four goals and a helper.
Melissa Williams (3 goals, 5 assists) and
Callie Brown (3 goals) provided hat tricks for the Lions, while
Silvetta Agosto and
Taylor Reinecke alos enjoyed multi-goal performances.
Things do not get easier for GCU as they host defending CACC champion, Philadelphia University, Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 PM.
